Why it is in the collection
Trims go wrong for two reasons: you cannot see the quick, and your cat would rather be anywhere else. The light takes care of the first. The lick mat and a two-minute routine take care of the second.
Before you buy
Inside a pale claw is a pink core with a nerve and blood supply, the quick. With the LED on, it shows through the claw, so you can cut the clear tip well short of it. On dark claws the light cannot show the quick, so trim only the thin hooked tip.
The kit is built around that. Spread a lickable treat thin on the mat and press it to the floor. While your cat licks, trim one or two claws, then stop while things are still calm. Our 2-minute routine walks you through it. Some cats take a few short sessions to settle, so go at their pace.
For most indoor cats, every two to four weeks. Older cats often need it more often, because their claws thicken and scratch less on their own.
It will bleed a little. Press a pinch of styptic powder or plain cornstarch on the tip for a minute, give a treat, and stop for the day. If it keeps bleeding, call your vet.
